Members of Congress are concerned over American sovereignty.
The State Department cited the U.S. government’s commitment to a Pandemic Accord on Monday, saying it “will vastly improve the global health architecture for preventing, preparing for, and responding to future pandemic emergencies.”
America’s negotiator for the Pandemic Accord, Ambassador Pamela Hamamot, stated, “We seek a Pandemic Accord that builds capabilities, reduces pandemic threats posted by zoonotic diseases, enables rapid and more equitable responses, and establishes sustainable financing, governance, and accountability to ultimately break the cycle of panic and neglect.”
She added, “A commitment to ‘equity’ must address inequities not only between countries, but also within them. Not just protecting populations from pandemics – but also from illness, death, and disrupted access to essential health care services during pandemics, including sexual and reproductive health services.”
With the Pandemic Accord comes the State Department’s pledge for even more funding and cooperation for the World Health Organization.
Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina and others introduced legislation a week ago that would require any agreement with the World Health Organization to have the advice and consent of a supermajority of the Senate. “The World Health Organization should never have a say in how America handles a response to any crisis, health or otherwise,” the senator said. “This legislation makes that clear to the Biden Administration and WHO bureaucrats who have continuously refused to hold Communist China accountable for its role in covering up and exacerbating the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Representative Michael McCaul of Texas, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, together with House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy Rogers of Washington, stated, “The World Health Organization has a major credibility problem. Instead of leading a thorough and trustworthy investigation into the origins of the pandemic, the WHO has repeatedly kowtowed to the Chinese Communist Party and is complicit in its COVID-19 coverup. As the WHO begins the process to move this pandemic treaty forward, America’s sovereign rights and biomedical leadership and innovation must be protected. The CCP also must be held accountable. The Biden administration must make these their top priorities in the pandemic accord negotiations.”
